Learning to drive in Bani Yas
Bani Yas sits out along the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road, far enough from the island that learners here spend most of their lesson time on real highway approaches rather than quiet residential loops. That is a harder start than a city neighbourhood and a more useful one. By the time you reach your test you will have spent hours joining a road where the traffic is already moving quickly, which is exactly where nervous drivers tend to lose their nerve.
We are a matching service, not a driving school. We connect learners in Bani Yas with independent instructors who work these roads. Official tests, approvals and licence issuance are handled by the Abu Dhabi authorities.
Ten instructors cover Bani Yas
All ten of the instructors we work with cover Bani Yas — five male and five female. There is no part of Bani Yas we treat as out of range, and nowhere we ask you to travel out of to be picked up.
That matters more than it sounds. Most private instruction in Abu Dhabi is one person working alone, so your lesson times are whatever that one person has left. With ten instructors covering the same area, a morning slot in Bani Yas East and an evening slot in Bani Yas West are both normally available in the same week.
What the roads are actually like
The spine of the area is the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road, the E22, known locally as Al Ain Road. It runs along Bani Yas and gives the area its main junction, the Baniyas Interchange. Almost every lesson here involves joining or leaving it at some point.
Speed limits on that road came down on 9 February 2026. Between Al Nahda Interchange and the Baniyas Interchange the limit fell from 160 km/h to 140 km/h. From the Baniyas Interchange to just before the Bridges Complex, between Zayed City and Mohammed bin Zayed City, it fell from 140 km/h to 120 km/h. Al Rawdah Road, the E30 linking Mussafah and Mohammed bin Zayed City, came down from 120 km/h to 100 km/h on the same day.
Lower limits do not make these easy roads. They are still multi-lane highways carrying fast traffic, and the skill a Bani Yas learner needs first is judging a gap on the slip road and committing to it. Hesitating on the approach causes more trouble here than going slightly too slowly once you are in the lane.
Crossing between Bani Yas East and Bani Yas West
The two halves of Bani Yas sit on either side of the E22, and the crossing between them was rebuilt. The East Bani Yas roundabout was replaced with a signal-controlled intersection, the old pedestrian tunnels were removed, and a bridge now carries traffic over the highway. The Department of Municipalities and Transport put the journey between East and West at about three minutes, down from eleven, with the junction handling roughly 1,400 vehicles an hour arriving from the E22 and about 1,100 from either side of Bani Yas.
It is worth practising that junction deliberately. A signal-controlled intersection with heavy turning movements asks for different habits than a roundabout did — lane choice well before the lights, and no drifting across lanes inside the junction.
Finding your way around
Bani Yas is usually described in parts: Bani Yas East and Bani Yas West on either side of the highway, Bani Yas North on the outer edge, and Bawabat Al Sharq, where the mall of the same name sits. Bani Yas West also holds the area’s bus station, served by the A40 towards Al Shahama and the airport and by routes 400, 401 and 420. Bus stops are worth knowing about as a learner, because they change how the traffic around them behaves.
Allow roughly thirty minutes to central Abu Dhabi outside peak hours, thirty to forty in the morning and evening, and about twenty minutes to Zayed International Airport.
Testing and the Golden Chance
Tests are run by the Abu Dhabi authorities, not by us, and nobody can promise you an outcome. What preparation does is make the test feel ordinary: the same junctions, the same merges and the same parking manoeuvres, practised until they stop taking your full attention.
If you already hold a licence from an approved country you may be eligible for the Golden Chance route. Eligibility is decided by the authorities. What we provide is the practice — see our Golden Chance driving licence page.
Prices
The published price is the price we quote. Nothing is added afterwards for travel.
- Male instructor — AED 150 per visit. Two 45-minute sessions on the same day — 1 hour 30 minutes in total.
- Female instructor — AED 200 per visit. Two 45-minute sessions on the same day — 1 hour 30 minutes in total.
- Golden Chance package — AED 600 with a male instructor, AED 800 with a female instructor. Eight sessions — 6 hours in total.
Pick-up and drop-off are included across Abu Dhabi city, Mussafah, Khalifa City and Bani Yas — further out, we confirm the full price before you book. Lessons come in pairs because the instructor drives to you with the car — for a single 45-minute session, more of the appointment goes on travelling than driving. Two sessions a day is the minimum and three is the maximum, so the Golden Chance package takes three or four visits.
Automatic and manual
Our female instructors teach automatic. For manual lessons we match you with a male instructor who teaches manual — tell us which you need when you message and we match accordingly. For how lessons with a woman work in Bani Yas, see our female driving instructor in Abu Dhabi page.
Nearby areas
The same ten instructors cover the neighbouring areas along the same corridor. If you are closer to one of these, start there instead: driving instructor in Mussafah or driving instructor in Khalifa City.
